Perspective: Education

Perspective: Education

(Note: this writing is still subject for editing. I wrote this just for a reason, so if ever you'll notice any grammatical errors just ignore it :-) thanks) --lilprince

Ideally it is. . .

I believe that God gave us wisdom and knowledge through education to free ourselves from the slavery of emptiness and from the torment of loneliness. Through wisdom and knowledge we can view world far from what is just seen. It is the only power that makes us decide what kind of world we want to create not just the world where we lived in but for the world that we are to spend the rest of our lives. And it is the responsibility of the teacher to enrich that knowledge and wisdom, pass it to the learners and help them build their own understanding about the ideals of life.

I believe that learners possess natural goodness within and that goodness triggers their desires to satisfy themselves to what they are looking for – that is, basically, to live in harmony. As teacher I will let them realize that they cannot build a better place/society to live without making themselves a better one. I will help them find their own inner peace and identity, teach them good values, guide them to their destined path, and look for them as they walk along.

I will teach them how to achieve the kind of life they want to live, the kind of place and in general, the kind of world they want to have. I will teach them that learning is more than just acquiring knowledge but finding the purpose of life to prepare them for any circumstances they may encounter outside the learning ground. I will challenge them to think critically how to shape a better society not just for their own benefit but to all who deserves to live in a pleasant place.

I believe that teachers can affect greater impact to society by molding the minds of the young learners and guiding them to take active participation in social reform. I also believe that a well-developed character (both spiritual and physical) in each student could greatly contribute to the hope of changing the distorted society. Further, the presence of the teacher during their (the learners) learning stage is very essential to make right judgement to any possibilities of making a mistake and to bring them back to the right track where they should be .

I believe that activities such as simulation, role plays, debate (related to societal reforms) and the like could help develop learners’ ability to think critically, analytically and practically to what is the real situation of the society where they belong. And it is, I think, one way to help them motivate to take active participation in social change to aid in societal reform. These activities could also harness the skills of every learner to develop their potentials as a good student leader and a good future leader in their respective places as well.

I believe that teaching-learning is an active process and not just a mere “sit-and-listen” activity, it is dynamic, and it should provide varied activities (activities that centralized the importance of the development of character and teaching of moral maxims) to help learners feel the essence of learning. Standard of morality should be taught from home and should continue in school particularly in their respective classroom. Teachers should be the source of good values, right conduct, and proper etiquette when learners are in school. Teachers should make sure that the learning gained by the learners should be applied in different areas of their lives when they are out of school – the effectiveness of teaching should affect for a lifetime and not just for a moment.

I believe that learners can only learn theories when they are applied directly or indirectly to practice and shoulder greater responsibility than just know the “what” and “how”. Theories should be “learned” and “applied” rather than just give the definition. Learning is not abstract, it should be concrete, and the evidence of learning should be observed. Teacher should assist every learner as to how and when to apply the learned theories.

I believe that every learner is unique creation – a very special creation. Therefore, the learners should be treated as unique individual. Teacher should be flexible to address the needs of each learner and consider their diversities in handling them. Teachers should mold each learner to the fullest – spiritually, mentally, emotionally, and physically – teach them the virtues of life including hope, faith, and love. In this way, the learners can prepare for a bigger mission, a mission to create a better society.

I believe that learning without work is dead. Every idea, abstract thoughts, theories and other learning should be put into application.

Change is nature. I believe that teachers should upgrade each student to adapt to the changes that take place every now and then. Modification of strategies and techniques is very important to bridge the gap between learners and society’s trend. Values should be integrated to any subject areas (Math, Science, Filipino, English, etc.) to preserve the culture and custom of every Filipino despite the influences of media, environment and the like.

As teacher, it is my desire to help the learners find their identity in order for them to pursue their destiny.

the hunger for knowledge is the key for a meaningful learning”
